The presiding deity of Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple – Arasavalli is Sri Suryanarayana Swamy, the Sun god. The sun god is portrayed as riding on a chariot, which is drawn by seven horses driven by Aruna, a charioteer of the Surya, a god of the Hindus. The temple located five idols in a single location. The five idolsare carved out from a single black granite stone. The five sacred idols are the idols of Lord Aditya (Sun god), Goddess Ambica (Parvati), Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, Lord Maheswara (Lord Shiva). And hence Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple is called as the Panchayatana temple, the main shrine is surrounded by four subsidiary shrines. Here Lord Aditya being the center, surrounded by Ganesha, Shiva, Parvati and Vishnu in four corners.
The specialty of this temple is that the rays of the sun fall on the feet of the deity for about few minutes through the closed entranced gatetwice a year in the month of February and June (in the early morning). And there is a belief that people who suffer from skin and eye diseases are cured by praying sun god in this temple.
The temple reveals the architectural excellence of Vishwakarmasculptors which is also called as Maharanas as it is an Orissa Vishwakarma Brahmin sculptor. The temple holds a special pillar which is believed to be fixed in the year 1929 by Jakkamsetti Venkanna. And the entire base of the pillar was adorned with jewels as an offering to the Sun god.
Sundays are considered to be more sacred at this temple and special rituals are performed on every Sundays.

Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple is situated in the city of Srikakulam, state of Andhra Pradesh, which is dedicated to the Sun god.
Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple is considered to be one of the ancient temples built by the ancient rulers. Sri Suryanarayana Swamy temple is said to be built originally by the Eastern Kalinga rulers, Devendra Varma of Orissa in the 7th century AD.
The Kalinga kings were said to be rulers of the region from 4th century to 14th century CE. And the current structure of the temple is said to be renovated in the 18th century. x
The mythology was that when Lord Indra, the king of gods, wanted to vigour His entry to the temple of Koteeshwara (Lord Shiva) was thrown away by the Dwarapalakas (gatekeepers) of the temple. Lord Indra got regretted by this act and enshrined a temple for the Sun god Surya at Arasavalli and performed rituals at the temple. The structure of the temple built by Lord Indra entirely takes a different form. The image of the sun god was made of black granite, and stands about five feet in height holding Padma Paani (lotus buds), which is flanked by the GoddessesPadma, Usha and Chhaaya, the consorts of Lord Indra, on a seven horse chariot.
The gatekeepers of the shrine are Pingala and Danda and the saints Sanaka and Sananda and Aruna, a charioteer of the Surya, a god of the Hindus, is also found in the image.
